Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward has today, 17 March 2017, announced that the New South Wales Government is providing a further $1 million to support community projects in the Port Kembla Region.
Mr Ward has today announced the injection of more funds into the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund.
“This is great news for the people of Port Kembla, as it builds on the $2 million in funding provided last year and supports the development of a range of community facilities that can be used by everyone,” Mr Ward said.
“We will hold an information session on 29th March to help people to understand the application process and I encourage local organisations to start thinking about their proposals for the available funds.
“Applications for the Port Kembla Community Fund will open on the 31st March with successful projects expected to be announced in August.
“The New South Wales Government supported 14 community projects in the first round of funding.
“Some of the projects to benefit from funding were the Port Kembla Town Centre Façade Program and an Indigenous Cultural Trail linking Heritage Park, Hill 60 and Commaditchie Lagoon,” Mr Ward said.
The NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the investments in the community of Port Kembla were possible because of the long term leasing of Port Kembla.
“Through the leasing of the port we have established an ongoing fund designed to activate, enhance and build community assets for the people of Port Kembla,” he said.
“This annual community funding underlines our support for regional New South Wales and for projects that create community facilities and jobs while building economic sustainability,” Minister Barilaro said.
