Creative Communities 7 Day Makeover graphic

A Playground Makeover in 7 Days!

The Allan Street precinct is set to get a 7 Day Makeover! The space will be transformed using people power and led by Creative Communities, a company that helps people create great public spaces. A couple of communities in Queensland have already had ‘7 Day Makeovers’, so it’s exciting that the Port Kembla community is the first in NSW to have this opportunity.

Creative Communities are looking for creative, helpful types to be a part of this amazing project. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate, even if they can only give one hour. In June, they are holding an info night to explain how the Makeover will work, and how people can get involved. Join us at Port Kembla Senior Citizen’s Centre, Allan Street Port Kembla, on Tuesday 20 June, 6.30-8pm. Register online to volunteer at www.7day.com.au and head over to the Facebook page to stay in the loop.

Last call for Round 2 funding

Got a brilliant idea for breathing new life into Port Kembla, but need a few dollars to help get it off the ground? You have until Wednesday 31 May 2017 to get your application in for the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund. This fund is managed by the NSW Government and is for projects that help make Port Kembla a great place to live, work and play. Last year, Wollongong City Council received almost $1.15 million in the first round and they’re working with local community and business groups to make a number of exciting projects happen. You can have a look at all the projects that were funded in the first round on Projects – Round 1.

For information on how to apply for Round 2 funding, visit www.industry.nsw.gov.au/pkcif.

New roof for King George V Oval amenities

Sports clubs who train and play at King George V Oval have been working with Wollongong City Council on a plan to renew the current amenities building. The first stage of the renewal involved replacement of the roof, which was deteriorating with age.

The sports amenities get plenty of use, with cricket and football teams there year-round to train and compete. The roof replacement works were recently finished, and the block looks fantastic with the new roof in place.

Façade Program Applications Open

Eligible business and landowners in the Port Kembla town centre can apply now for matched funding to help with the cost of upgrading their building façades, up to a maximum of $20,000.

Consultants have looked at the condition and quality of all the shopfronts in the Port Kembla Town Centre and their recommendations for improvements are being shared with landowners.

Applications for matched funding through the Town Centre Façade Program opened on Thursday 20 April and will close on Thursday 18 May 2017 at 10am.

For details, see our Town Centre Facade Project page.

The program is expected to start in mid-2017.
