The Allan Street Precinct is in need of renewal and is not aesthetically attractive to visitors to the commercial district. The current play space equipment in the precinct is also due for replacement. This presented an opportunity to engage with the local community on giving the site a “makeover” to create a more vibrant community space and Wollongong City Council has received $133,000 from the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund towards this project.
The project is in two stages; the 7 Day Makeover occurred 29 July – 4th August 2017, with the community developing ideas and over 65 community members creating a vibrant new community space that incorporates natural play opportunities.
In the next stage, locally-produced play equipment will be installed, with the new space being unveiled in early Spring.
